THE FESTIVAL MED JOINS THE ZERO WASTE MOVEMENT
The 12th edition of the Festival MED joins the Zero Waste Movement, which the Municipality of Loulé joined in November 2014, by concluding an agreement with the Dariacordar Association, in order to awaken people and institutions to the reality of food waste, so this attitude becomes part of the social culture.
In this sense, during the days the event is taking place - from 25th to 28th June, the latter is the Open Day - all the excess food will be collected at the end of the night by the volunteers of the Refood Association, and according to the safety and food hygiene regulations, it is transported and stored for distribution by private institutions of social solidarity of the Municipality of Loulé.
For the organization of the Festival MED, the food waste is a negative reality present in our daily lives, representing a global and cross-cutting problem and it is necessary to find ways and strategies to minimize and solve it. The joining between the Festival MED and the Zero Waste Movement is one of the actions that the Municipality of Loulé will promote to redirect to disadvantaged people the excess food which is generated within the territory, in a commitment to prevent and combat the food waste, ensuring economic, social and environmental benefits for the whole society.
